I want to welcome Dr. Preetam Janakirama as a Staff Scientist I to Designer Microbes Inc. Dr. Janakirama earned a BSc in Microbiology, Chemistry, and Botany from St. Joseph’s College of Arts and Science in Bangalore, India, in 2002, and a Master of Science degree in Microbiology from Bangalore University in 2004. Then he worked in some of the top research institutes in India—Indian Veterinary Research Institute, National Centre for Biological Sciences, St. John’s Research Institute of Population Health & Clinical Research and Indian Institute of Science. In 2007 he started Ph.D. at Western University in Dr. Vojislava Grbic lab where he worked on the functional characterization of the HUA2 gene family in Arabidopsis thaliana. During his Ph.D., he was awarded a Baden-Württemberg Scholarship to conduct research at the University of Tübingen, Germany. After completing his Ph.D., in 2013, he worked as an NSERC Visiting Fellow at the London Research and Development Centre of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in London, Ontario with Dr. Krzysztof Szczyglowski. His scientific work has been published Nature Communications, Trends in Plant Science and the Plant Journal.
